FAQ’s about the “Brazilian”

Customer service is important to me. If you are not happy, I want to hear about it! I strive to provide comfortable service. If your experience is less than perfect, I want to  make it right.

WHAT IS THE BRAZILIAN BIKINI WAX?

There are so many definitions of what a Brazilian Wax is.  At Honey I refer to it as “everything” or “the works” .  ALL hair is taken off from bikini top and sides (including up to naval).  All hair is removed from the labia area through to the top of your bottom (and any tail).  If you want a modified Brazilian with a strip or triangle left on top you would request a full bikini wax.  Want to leave more?  Then request an partial bikini where we leave a strip or triangle on top and taper your down to the  perineum. Not everybody wants to take everything off and like to leave a natural triangle.  Communication during your appointment time is key.

DOES IT HURT?

Removing hair from follicles isn’t going to be an comfortable experience. But in the care of an experienced esthetician the process can be much easier. Choose an esthetician that has experience with specifically with bikini waxes. You can help by  holding  your skin taught. You can also avoid  waxing for  four (4) days before, or four (4) days after your menstrual cycle. You might  find it slightly more painful on these days.  Being overly tired or  under the weather  may make it a little less comfortable for you. If you do decide to wax during your menstrual cycle, please arrive to your appointment with a tampon. You might have heard about the pain factor being unbearable but it’s  really not that bad. And  remember: You do not have  to do anything you don’t want to. If you feel like you can’t handle it, you can stop or at least take a break. It’s your prerogative and body!

What about a numbing cream or spray?

Numbing creams can interfere with  applying the wax or potentially cause an allergic reaction. I like to avoid using chemicals around  sensitive areas if possible.

How  UNCOMFORTABLE will I be  AFTER?

If you are getting a Brazilian  Wax for the first time, it is likely that you will be a little . The coarser your hair,  the more sensitive your skin and the  more sensitivity you will feel during and after the wax. Some  clients getting their first one are uncomfortable for an hour and others feel it a little for 24-48 hours. Also considering  wearing looser  jeans or pants if it is your first time waxing. And  dont go right to a yoga class, horseback riding or anything else that involves a lot of friction. Ouch! You can  minimize the discomfort by taking an ibuprofen 20 minutes before you wax and using  a cool compress on the area. (Avoid placing the ice directly on skin.) You don’t need this every time, but it could help the first  time. Once you start waxing regularly, it becomes easier and discomfort is greatly reduced.  I use a  fabulous aloe gel  to treat your skin after a wax to ensure  rapid relief. For more info on prepping for a wax, see  »»How to Prepare.

CAN I GET A BRAZILIAN WAX IF I AM ON MY PERIOD?

Absolutely. Just know: a) you might be more sensitive, and b)  wear a  tampon.
c) ibuprofen 20 minutes before can help.

IS THERE A BETTER TIME TO GET MY FIRST WAX?

If it’s your first time waxing and have a big event such as your wedding, a vacation, etc. I wouldn’t recommend getting it done a  couple of days right before you go. Plan to have  two (2) waxes before  leaving. The first wax will be  out of the way and after your second wax, the results are  better and you will lessen being  uncomfortable during your special plans!

HOW LONG DO RESULTS OF GETTING A BRAZILIAN  LAST?

Hair grows at different cycles and there are three stages to hair growth. If you’ve been a shaver then after a first wax your shaved hair will  appear days after the wax. This is when  the client doesn’t wait for ALL of the hair to grow ( you want it as long as a grain of rice) . You will  notice after a few waxes, the hair starting to grow in slower and finer. The  extremely smooth skin won’t come directly after your first wax. The BEST results are after 3 waxes and it pays off!

During those 4 to 6 weeks of “growing in” time clients can get impatient which is understandable. If you are going to the beach, or have a big date you can just shave the sides of the bikini line or I can make time to just wax the sides.  The concern is with that top of the  bikini line where hair grows in slow and thick, it can be a good idea to give that area some  time to grow in 100% when you’re new to waxing and have been a shaver.

WHAT KIND OF WAX DO YOU HAVE THERE?

I  use a soft, warm honey wax and I have a hard wax available if that is of preference.  I like the  soft wax and  have tested all different kinds of wax and I stick to the one that works best.

IS THERE A TIME I CAN’T WAX?

I can’t wax if you fall under the following categories:

  1. If you’re using a Retinol products i.e. Retin A, Renova etc. on your bikini line or brow area.
  2. Actively using  Accutane.
  3. An active  sunburn, laser burn, or pustules on the area we’re waxing.

WHAT ABOUT TANNING BEFORE OR AFTER A WAX?

Your skin is really vulnerable after a wax and is considered exfoliation I would skip it. Airbrush tanning is different and is fine to do (and safer!) Come see me about Ecotan products!

WHAT IS THE “NO SHOW” AND “CANCELLATION POLICY” ?

Life happens and a phone call is appreciated. Recurring “no-shows” are rare here  but will require a prepay for services. When you run more than 15 minutes late for your appointment please be prepared to wait when you come in.

I love questions so please send them my way!
